Thieves beware!

Wed May 13, 2009, 2:47 PM
This account is to be used by certain members of :iconantiartthieving: and it's sole purpose is to keep track of art thieves.

We will only watch art thieves, active or past offenders to make sure they don't get out of line again.

To those thieves, we'd like to point out that stealing is wrong (duh) whether you steal from a store, a bank, or an artist. It IS illegal, even if it's on the world wide web, believe it or not. Don't think you are safe from lawsuits, because trust us, if someone wants to sue you for stealing their work, they will track you through your IP and get your name and address.

Just because you see an image on the net, does not mean it is free for you to use however you wish. You can always contact the artist and ask for permission, it's usually not very hard. Instead, most of you nitwits just take what you want without thinking of the consequences. You need to learn to respect the artist's!

Here is some useful information to help answer most questions on art theft:

FAQ #214: What are deviantART's policies regarding avatars?

FAQ #8: What does deviantART consider to be Art Theft?

FAQ #304: Do you remove copies and trace-over art?

FAQ #157: Can I use things created by other people in my submissions?

FAQ #578: What does deviantART consider to be a proper desktop screenshot?

Generally, the rule of thumb is that if you did not create it (and we mean the WHOLE image) on your own (tracing is stealing) and you do not own the image or have permission from the owner to post it, then you cannot post it on this site.

Some people try to suggest sites like Photobucket as an alternative, but guess what? Stealing is stealing, anywhere you post it. Photobucket has a very effective team that handles copyright infringement reports, and they remove stolen art typically in less than 24 hours after the owner files a report.

In conclusion, deviantART is meant for individuals to post their own work, things they have created all by themselves. Posting work that does not belong to you is simply not tolerated here. If you have a problem with the rules of this website, you can either take it up with $Moonbeam13, or leave.
